It is really sad....
...how we forget about our calling. I mean how we know that God has called us to do a certain job and then when things get tough we think that we cannot do it. For the past few weeks our pastor has been preaching from Nehemiah chapters 1-4 (you should read it). It is where God has called Nehemiah to bring the people together to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. To make it short, things are going really well, it actually says at one point that "the people had a mind to work" but just after that some surrounding people are forming a plan to attack and soon the people are dicouraged and think they cannot complete the job. It says in verse 10 of chapter 4 the people were saying that the strength of the laborers was giving out and that there was so much rubble that they could not rebuild the wall. Keep in mind that this is when the wall has already been built to half its height. It took very little opposition to discourage them from completing the job. We work the same way, God calls us to do something and at the first sign of trouble we have a tendency to want to give up. I was thinking of myself this morning while listening to the sermon. I know that God has called me to be here but even knowing that, there have been times when I want to give up, times I feel like I am not making any difference and I just get frustrated. Then it hit me Romans 8:35-39.
Who shall seperate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to seperate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
After thinking about that I was like why should I let a little discouragement from the devil get to me. The word says that I am more than a conqueror in Christ. That means the devil has done been beat I don't need to let him get to me. Jesus done beat him. Whatever God has called us to do God is going to see to it that his purpose is served in his time, not ours. He has eqiupped us to be able to perform the task at hand if we will just rely on him. And when the satan comes around to discourage us remember that he ain't got nothing on you cause you got Jesus.
